Intended UseFor In Vitro Diagnostic Use
Summary and ExplanationInhibins are peptide hormones produced by the granulosa cells in female follicles and by Sertoli cells in the male seminiferous tubules. They are selectively expressed by cells of sex-cord stromal derivation, and inhibit the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland. Inhibin contains an alpha and beta subunit linked by disulfide bonds. Two forms of inhibin differ in their beta subunits (A or B), while their alpha subunits are identical. Inhibin belongs to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) family. Anti-Inhibin Alpha has demonstrated utility in differentiation between Adrenal Cortical Tumors and Renal Cell Carcinoma. Sex-Cord Stromal Tumors of the Ovary as well as Trophoblastic Tumors also demonstrate cytoplasmic positivity with this antibody.
