| Summary and Explanation | HLA class II histocompatibility antigen, DRB1-9 beta chain belongs to the HLA class II beta chain paralogues. The class II molecule is a heterodimer consisting of an alpha (DRA) and a beta chain (DRB), both anchored in the membrane. It plays a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from extracellular proteins. HLA-DRB1 is expressed mainly on antigen-presenting cells, such as B lymphocytes, monyctes and dendritic cells, but can also be detected on activated T lymphocytes and activated granulocytes. In abnormal tissues, HLA-DRB1 has been found in different types of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemias and Acute Myeloid Leukemias.
